No, there's no punchline!

I've stripped down my S1 completely and I'm now buying parts to rebuild as well as sending the chassis for powder coating. I'm looking on ebay for braided brakes hoses but it lists a 6 hose kit for an S2/3 or a 5 hose kit for the S series. Trouble is I can't rememebr how many I took off because I had to grind them off due to corrosion and threw them. I know, hindsight's a wonderful thing! I took loads of photos and I'm pretty sure there are 6, two on each front wheel and one on each rear.

Is this right?

In any case, where's the best (cheapest) place to get parts. I need all the usual, ball joints, bushes, and basically anything rubber. Fortunately nothing too serious

As far as I'm aware there are 6 - and I don't understand why there's a difference listed for S1 - I thought S1-S3 all had the same brakes?

Found this problem when I ewas shopping around for a set. looks like some manufacturers/supplies think the S1 had a solid rear axle (like earlier TVR's ?)

You definately want the six set unless you go for one very long flexible on each side at the front (like Chimaera) and do away with that fiddley little metal pipe between the two flexibles.

I've no doubt it will be the 6, predictably the most expensive! The 350i is listed separately (although it does say 350i S).

TVRCarparts are competative for the poly bushes (supaflex)for the front end and ARB (make sure you measure the diameter of the ARB)Top Ball Joints are SAAB 900/9000 and ebay is your friend... bottom ball joints are Fiat 124, Lada Riva and a few other things I believe.

K wink

Be very careful with the lower ball joints there have been reports (in the Chim forum I believe) of some failures as some of the joints have a limited range of movement.
The The Alternative Parts List For the S Series will also help eg

Front Top Ball Joint.S28C 10035SAAB 900 Part No.8993321From Pistonheads S Gassing 22/2/04 There is a problem with the fit of some SAAB 900 ball joints - even the original ones from SAAB are too big. A perfect fit is Q&H part No. QSJ1004S. For further update see full Pistonheads S Forum thread Here and Here
Bottom Ball Joint. Lada 1200 1972/76 Part No. QSJ768 AP Lockheed TC204From Pistonheads site 23/5/03 (S Gassing) The current Lada 1200 QSJ768 do not fit S1/S2 nor does the AP Lockheed TC204. Hole position is not important for Lada's What does fit is QSJ765s or AP Lockheed TC76 both of which are for Fiat's models 124/125/132

But note this post from the Chim forum

The other problem with the bottom joints is that some of the parts have a reduced amount of movement. OK for a Lada or whatever but not for a TVR. As a result several cases of total ball joint failure have happened. Imagine the wheel coming off at 60-70 mph and you get the picture.

TBH it is not worth taking the risk.
I have had problems with limited articulation on the bottom ball joints causing the suspension to lock up under full droop and making camber adjustment interesting.

I believe Keith at Clever Trevor was looking into getting some bottom balljoints custom made. Worth giving him a call, after all safety is worth the extra cost.
I would bite the bullet nd buy from a TVR specialist, Clever Trevor or TVR Car Parts

God, is there anything youlot don't know? Thanks a lot for the help. Just got the prices for Heath's, looking at £500 worth of parts so might shop around a bit on ebay, noted the right ball joints though!
