But I just found this and I am tempted...

Omega Speedmaster 1979

I wouldnt normally spend this much for something that

I couldn't tell you if it's been priced well or not (someone will be along soon that'll know) but it is a lovely looking thing, Speedies are well respected watches. Birth watches are supposed to be pretty special and if you like it then why not? Better than buying new I'd say yes

Rather a strong price I would say, not sure if the cal. 861 carries a significant premium over the current 1861 (iirc) but I would say that is £6-800 more than I would expect to pay for a current-ish used model.

It's not a silly price, but unless you're in Australia I'd try to source a more locally to avoid bank charges, getting ripped of on the currency exchange + VAT & a hefty release fee.

Watches here in Aus are way more expensive than the UK so unless this is a "special price" I'd probably look for one in the UK first.

I need to add I've no idea on the market value for this watch but have been depressed at how much watches cost here and as this one is from a shop I know in one of Sydney most expensive areas I suspect it top dollar.
