Observation about FWD
Discussion
Borrowed my g/f Audi TT last night to nip home and back again.
Great little car, heated seats are lovely right now, easy and fun to drive, plenty of poke.
When you can get it on the road.
Admittedly not great driving conditions I grant you, but the T/C light was going berserk and traction was decidedly average. On the flip side, the roadholding is much better than the M3 or 355. Makes you realise what 20 years of chassis development can do.
Also made me realise that RWD or 4WD is definitely my preferred mode of power delivery, however I'm glad she's riding around in something that can hopefully only get her into limited trouble.
Just an observation, nothing more.

The roadholding may be an illusion because of the softer suspension than the M3 or 355. It's very common for peope to think the brakes or lateral grip are better on a car if it rolls and pitches more. Even Mansell fell for this on one occasion, reportedly coming in after one lap in an active suspension test car saying that the brakes weren't working properly...

I wonder how long it will be before someone mentions the "W****, T****" word?

I'd imagine the front wheel drive Audi handles pretty conservatively, with the first generation TT they tried to engineer a bit of fun into it and the target market stacked them.
You are comparing a fairly dull FWD to two sublime rear drive chassis. A great front driver will always be fun, though never up to something like an F355

I don't see what you are getting at. You say it is fun, easy to drive, has plenty of poke and it handles well which suggests you like but you don't want to because its FWD and as a PH 'type' you have to have a preferance for 4wd or RwdGreat little car, heated seats are lovely right now, easy and fun to drive, plenty of poke.

It does beg the question though what if someone started another thread saying I predominantly drive FWD so when I jumped in a RWD car and tried driving in the snow I was surprised the car felt really good but it kept sliding and the back end wanted to overtake the front which must be a failure of all RWD cars.

Merely that from a driving persepctive, I prefer RWD or 4WD and that I'd forgotten how FWD cars struggle to put power down on the road.
So, with all this cold weather, you missed all these FWD cars going around OK (weight over the driven wheels etc.) but half of all bmw's/mercs etc. being stranded......

OP, I feel this is more an Audi issue than a FWD one. I've found my Audi to be a little too much of a 'nanny' in the winter weather too, it intervenes the moment it feels a loss of traction. If you are looking for a more entertaining drive and are a relatively competent driver, turn ESP off.
