Looking for a £6K estate and was thinking Passat, lots of high milers at dealers so I thought why not buy from my local auction and save a few quid, might not get exactly what I was looking for but that might be a good thing. I'd probably be going to the saturday sale.

Any expericences of AB?

Personally I'd go to Manheim Colchester(largest car auction centre in Europe) as you get a much bigger choice of vehicles. The Chelmsford auctions are pretty small really, the fees are very high and the cars can be a bit doggy. IME

AB at Chelmsford is a well run place that has good and bad cars like ALL auction houses.

Wednesday is the best day as there are 2 halls running, one with end of lease cars and one with main dealer part exchanges.

Get there early, thorughly look over the car, be there when car is started and bid accordingly.

Happy days.

Chelmsford is OK, I actually prefer them to deal with to Manheim. It's smallish and old fashioned and obviously they do not have so many cars as larger outfits but to be fair they're as big as some of the smaller BCA & Manheim sites.

There is a hell of a lot of rubbish punted through there though - try to avoid Saturday and Monday evenings if you can which is full of private buyers bidding on rubbish (which is why traders put all their bad cars through on those days). Go on Wednesday and stick to the more obvious vendors and you have an even chance of getting something which works.
