With work going well I am looking to possibly get into E60 M5 ownership in the new year. I will be purchasing private TBH as whilst I don't mind paying the monthly warentee I refuse to pay secondhand BMW added tax! As such its going to be difficult to get a test drive soooo.... anyone near the Andover/Newbury area who fancies taking me for a short spin in theirs?? Not looking to drive just want to see what the low speed normal driving is like after the hype you read of the low speed gear changes as alot of my driving is "normal" for work, shopping etc. My 550i is great but I feel the M5 is one of those must have cars before we are all resigned to big brother satellite monitored Prius's!!
Obviously IL splash for the fuel or a coffee and chat at one of those overpriced costa places.

Can only offer an M6 convertible, if you have no luck finding M5 local to you, give me a shout, I`m 10 mins from Newbury. You may be better waiting for a more telling drive when the weather is better?
Might take you up on that if no M5's are about, TBH the weathers not really an issue so long as its dry as I know they go well in full attack mode but its the normal driving I want to see what there like. It will be a second car but if the box is as bad as some make out I may hold out for something smoother. You don't drive to the industrial estate in Wantage sometimes do you as someone there in the summer used to floor it down the short straight in the mornings when I was based there....

Go to the dealers and test their M5,
when asked at the end of test drive if you like it, make sure you say it's s

Just tipping up in an old 06 plate 550i has my local dealers looking down their nose at me! so I doubt they will give me a test drive. Got lectured about the none BMW battery last time I went even though it works fine and was in the car when I got it! Not the most approachable lot lot unless your buying new really.when asked at the end of test drive if you like it, make sure you say it's s

Even now i have one (the rest of the staff there) they still look at me like i dont have a clue. I figure its my age (young not old) or that i wear shorts and tshirt 99% of the year and turn up at the showroom on a bicycle. Either way they should give all customers a pleasant welcome. I went in last week to organise a diff oil change and instead of listening to what i was saying they assumed i was bringing in an E39 and not E61. When i corrected them they still didnt absorb it and continued the E39 path. I did, after a couple of comments get the service rep to take notice of what i was saying but he didnt change his attitude. I got the sales girl out (the one from the test drive and was ace) and demanded that she would be my personal assistant when it came to booking the car in for servicing etc as i felt the rest of the staff didnt show me the correct respect as a customer due to my age.
I duely told the service rep that despite my age i wasnt stupid. I also told him i can be a b
d when it comes to servicing and warranty stuff. I told him that unless his attitude changes he'd grow to hate me, but the fact is that i wouldnt go away. I demanded that i be allowed to be present during servicing and watch over the techs in the workshop and also sit in a on test drives so i know how the car is being driven when in their care. His attitude changed remakably and now they couldnt be more helpfull. The car is going in on saturday for a diff oil change free of charge!!
Sorry to go off topic.

I'd rather not point fingers at any specific dealer. They watch the forums you know. Have you experienced the 'Wood' effect?
No, can't say I have.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
