Hi All

I am having a little problem with my X5 at the moment!

The temp guage sits just above blue when warmed up in this weather (I have noticed it sits in the middle under load in more temarate weather. and half way between blue and red under low load at say 15 degrees C)

I thing this is the reason that the heater is not working as there is not enough engine heat to transfer to the air for the passenger compartment?

Q's

1, Will running the car "cold" cause any issues?

2, I assume a thermostat has gone somewhere, which one sounds likely?

3, Is there something I have not thought about!

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks
Alastair

PS the problem persists over a long journey eg Friday went from Halifax to Whitehaven, min tem outside -12.5 deg C, max temp +4.5

your heater is not getting hot because your thremostat is stuck open thus over cooling the water.
what engine do you have in your x5?

yup, sounds like an open thermostat. shouldn't be too costly to change.

ok buddy, i dont think gsf do a thermostat and housing for the 3.0 diesel, they may have added it lately but i doubt it,
comes as a complete unit, thermostat in housing.
scroll down the page of this company and you should see the part you need £59
