Winter Tyres for 330d
Discussion
Hi,
I have a 2007 M-Sport BMW 330d Auto nestled away in the garage - given the fun I had around Jan/Feb earlier in the year! It feels like winter tyres are the best way forward...
Sytner BMW quoted £1640 for four 17" alloys and winter tyres.
I wondered if you can get winter tyres for the standard 18" M-Sport wheels, as I don't mind leaving the tyres on until spring now.
Are there any other options for getting winter wheels and tyres?
Thanks,
Peter

You need at least 17s to clear the brakes but if you're happy to swap the rubber over then there are options in a standard size.

I looked into this for my E90 330i with the standard 18" M Sport alloys, but found that the staggered wheel setup presented an obstacle as I couldn't find two matching pairs in the right sizes, it was the same with RFTs and non-RFTs. I didn't want different tyres on each end of the car.
Also when you look at the prices of these tyres, especially the RFTs, the BMW wheel packages start to look like seriously good value. I just had my dealer fit Bridgestone LM-25 RFT's on 17" alloys for £1500 and Mytyres.co.uk list the same tyres as £220-230 each, so £600 for the extra set of alloys, fitting and storage isn't bad in my mind.
On availabiliy my dealer was quoting 10-15 days but then phoned me immediately when they took a set in stock for a customer who didn't follow through with the purchase... so anyone trying to get a set should try ringing around the nearest dealers and registering their interest.
So far the LM-25's seem really good and coming from RE050 RFT's on 18's the ride is a lot better as well
so much that I'll be reluctant to go back to the summer set.

You'll be lucky to get storage thrown in for free. I tried 5 different BMW dealers and only one (Gatwick) would store. They wanted 250GBP for 2 years storage (including couple of swaps/year). Needless to say I didn't accept their kind offer.
Thats interesting... not only is my dealer currently storing two sets of wheels for free but they have said future storage would also be free for as long as I own the vehicles and remain a customer. They didn't define this so their definition of customer may mean "as long as we supply you with a new car each year" versus my "as long as I pop in and buy a bottle of screenwash occasionally"
I suppose they could also try and charge me something silly for the changeover to make up for it. It may also be something as simple as that my particular dealer has a lot of space somewhere, or access to a very cheap warehosue (Black Country vs South East)Edited by theboss on Tuesday 7th December 11:25
