Plansma TV Screen Burn??
Discussion
Ok, so i've reserved my new Panasonic TX-P42g20 plasma TV.
But i'm getting paranoid now, the guy in the shop kept telling me that if i use my laptop through it or a PS3 then i will get screen burn and should get an LCD instead. It's got me a little concerned now!
Any experience / advice please?!?

I have the same TV and use my laptop and xbox through it, and have done for the past year.
I didn't have any problems until Sunday night when I was playing Duke Nukem 3d (Yes I know) on the Xbox. because it is an old game it was in 4:3 format so there was a border continually on the screen. I played the game for about an hour and a half but when i turned it off there was some retention of the border left on the screen. I turned the tv off and went to bed, when i woke in the morning the screen was fine but it did make me worry i had broken my tv.
I really wouldn't worry though, just stay away from classic 90's games
I have played games like MW2 and Forza, and have worked from home through the tv for a number of hours at a time and have had no problems so don't worry. Be sensible and you'll be fine.
Btw - Plasma>LCD

Sounds like you'll be fine then. I know from reading around the subject when I was looking to buy my tv that imagine burn was common on the early plasmas but now it is almost unheard of. Imagine retention (Like i had) can still happen if you're not careful.
You'll be happy with the TV, especially blu rays.

I don't know how valid it is, but there is plenty of advice saying not to do that. Also run the screen for a couple of weeks (depending on how much you watch it) at reduced brightness and contrast levels, and reduce the contrast levels when playing games woth static images.

Its not a problem any more on decent panels although some of the cheaper ones (Samsung) still burn in the 'Press RED now' logo.
There are two similar problems,
Screen burn : This is permanent and is removed by basically burning the rest of the screen to the same level as the bit you have noticed
Image retention : Looks the same but goes away by turning the TV off then on again.
Its not something id worry about, you could buy an LCD but thats a whole new can'o'worms. Besides is quite hard pouring the liquid crystals back in when they seep out
