I'm really starting to appreciate the negative effects of alcohol. A few days of heavy drinking and I feel an absolute mess. Concentration, motivation, pounding heart, shakes, general fuzziness.

I can't imagine how alcohol would affect you on an ongoing basis, for example if you were an alcoholic. Did some research on the net and withdrawal from alcohol can be fatal.

Does anyone here have any stories they wouldn't mind sharing based around alcoholism and health problems?

There's a scary prospect.

Care to expand on this?

Thanks guys, just generally concerned about how I'm going to feel 2 weeks from now based on the fact I have 6 boozy nights in the next 10.

when I was out of work I had to go and sign on, the only downside of ASU insurance

anyway, I had to sign on a 9.52am every other Tuesday morning and there would always be the same chap sat on the sofa when I arrived -he had the appointment before me

every week without fail he'd have two empty stella artois cans in a carrier bag and a half drunk quarter bottle of scotch in his jacket pocket

OP - you need to function on a higher plain

totally and am not being daft, if you have an alcohol dependency then you build up a tolerance, you can drink more takes you longer to get pissed, some people don't even get hangovers or they get so used to them they don't really recognise them as 'hangovers' anymore.

Like most addictions you can tolerate more and more the longer you do them, be it drink or drugs, I remember one ciggarette used to make me feel dizzy I now smoke 20 a day, same thing really.

Shakes? Not had those (yet).

Too much alkohol abuse is bad for your livers, esp. in the long term - but we all know that, right?

long term booziness btw is not good for you, have a detox after christmas! or re-hydrate yourself during the day with plenty of water

When my brother finally came to his senses and quit, (12 years now, well done mate.) he told me that he suffered for months with a nasty heavy cold due to the body having a higher core temperature when pickled in what ever he could get his hands on compared to that of a Nun.

He also became very boringly religious as well.

That and a very unusual taste in food. His Christmas dinner this year is going to be Crocodile meat, the knob. EDIT (him not the croc's knob)

But all in all fair play to him.

I know it's not an easy choice to make, but just don't drink so much and don't mix your drinks.
I've been known to drink more than I should, but it's been a long time since I mixed drinks, save the odd beer before wine with dinner.
There is no legal requirement to get stted at parties, if your body is feeling it so much, give it more of a break and don't drink for the sake of it.

I think I will be taking it easy, it's all but a legal requirement and if you knew the people I am going out with you would understand.

Beer it is, and I won't succumb to the inevitable jaegarbombs!

No matter what you drink, if you stick jager down your neck before after or during, you're going to feel it. I can drink a lot, but that stuff destroys me.
I was in a bar in Salzburg, total of three bottles of beer. At the same time playing shut the box. Loser buys the Jager shots. I was there for two hours, and ended up being sick, the gf wasn't amused as I'd said I was going to the shops for five minutes. Good times.

Any of that kind of drinking, particularly over a prolonged period, is going to rape your mind in the morning.

Just avoid the cycle of using the drink to cheer up the depression it gave you from the night before.
