Wireless thermostat

I'm looking to put a thermostat in another room to control our heating and hot water (on/off). Is this a fairly easy DIY job?, I guess the only tricky bit would be wiring the base unit into the existing wiring from the old control unit. Any pointers?

What kind of boiler is it? On mine it's just a simple receiver module that replaces the
fixed control, with a transmitter in another room.

It's a fairly modern 'standard' boiler, rather than a condensing one etc.

It does depend on the system wiring 'as is'. Do you have any motorised valves on the system? How many? Two or three port?

Yes, we have a two way motorised valve - as far as I know it's hot water in - central heating & hot water out.

This is the standard method for wiring a mid-position valve.

In this diagram the room stat 'switch' is wired across terminals 4 and 5. The receiver will need a live and neutral as well which you can pick up from 1 and 2.

Not difficult, but you must decide for yourself whether you can do it.

Yes, I did it myself and found it very easy following instructions in the pack.

However, the unit I bought (from B&Q) failed twice in the first 3 months and was replaced under warranty each time. But coming into the next winter this third unit failed again just as guarantee expired!

The helpful man in the shop said they're always swapping them out, so rather than getting another I simply went back to the wired version, running sufficient wire to where I wanted it and it hasn't failed since!
