The Chinese have the redass (saw what I did there) with someone suggesting they have more than a one-party dictatorship:

The whole thing is a joke, the Norwegian Government asked the Chinese to understand this was nothing to do with them, just the Nobel committee.

Chinese didn't understand so now a potentially tidy free trade agreement has gone out the window.

They should take attention seeking gong givers over to Sweden with the rest of the awards.

Countries that have turned down an invitation to Friday's ceremony include Chinese allies Pakistan, Venezuela and Cuba, Chinese neighbors such as Russia, the Philippines and Kazakhstan, and Chinese business partners such as Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Other countries not appearing at the Oslo City Hall ceremony include Ukraine, Colombia, Egypt, Sudan, Tunisia, Iraq, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Serbia and Morocco.

All shining examples of freedom with great human rights records .... Not

True, but there is a small but solid core on PH that insists on holding my bunch over here up as the force for evil in the world while having little to say about those on that gleaming list. Odd, is it not?

It's all a bit diplotetchy, but after the farce of Obama's award what currency does this politicised prize have left anyway.

They might have got away with Barry but not so soon after Algore.

I am not totally convinced that China is pissed off about an award to one of their dissidents. More likely they just don't want to be so closely associated with some of the recent 'winners'.

Yes, all of the above countries have started illegal wars in the past decade. They are the only countries in the world to execute prisoners too.

Half the recipients are just future oligarcs and tyrants.

Please stop with the "illegal war" crap. That is old and tired.
You are saying that all on that list execute prisoners correct? If so, yes. We execute SOME murderers, after about 20 years of appeals. I assume you realize the others execute for many other lesser offenses and without appeals. Just facts, don't let that worry you though.

Palin will never be elected to national office. I understand that would give a career US basher such as yourself good material, but it ain't happening. wink

You sure about that Jim?

I'm pretty heavily pro-America on most things (although certain, infectious facets of your culture are not to my liking) but Palin scares me to death. If she gets within a thousand miles of making National security decisions I'm moving to Pluto.

I don't think there are many Europeans who can even comprehend how she could gather popular support.

People like her for "subject broaching"; let's call it that. She is a crowd warmer for main acts. IMO, she will not only not be elected, but not make the cut to run.
