mk1 1.8 brake pad options for road and track
Discussion
Aiming to do at least half a dozen trackday/evenings but will be still using the car on the road but not as a daily driver but still a fair bit 4k+ per year.
What's everyone else running?
Green, red and yellowstuff pads or any others such as Axxis Ultimate? I'm leaning towards yellowstuff as a set of 4 is under £100 but don't want to find they are crap on the road until hot!
Any other sugestions?

I recommend the Axxis Ultimates (now called ULT) too. Great braking from cold and no fade. They do dust a lot but it's a price worth paying. Bed them in once when you fit them and they are good to go.
I have a set of Yellowstuff on the car at the moment as I thought I ought to give them a go but they aren't as good as the Axxis. They don't have as much pedal feel (a bit wooden), don't brake as hard and are very particular about bedding in (if you do some normal road driving for a while they will need bedding in again before heading to a track).
When it's time to replace (or more likely well before that) I'll be putting Axxis back on.

Sorry to go against the grain but I must say that I’m really pleased with my Yellowstuff pads. Fitted them a couple of months ago, along with new discs & Goodridge braided brake hoses. Was also concerned that they would need warming up and might be dangerous for the first few miles on the road, but not an issue at all. The only downside I have found is an increase in brake dust on the wheels but I assume that would be the case with any uprated pad. Mine are on a ’94 1.8 used for occasional Sunday thrashes and track days too.

Have you tried any of the alternatives? I haven't met anyone who has tried Axxis, Carbotech, Mintex and Yellowstuff who prefer the EBCs.
No, so I can only comment on my experience with the Yellows versus standard pads. I did a search for Axxis and Carbotech at the time, but found that they were out of range of my limited pocket-money. Munter said:
I've had EBC Green. Good for the road, but didn't like the track much. I've had EBC Red. Better on track, but not as much cold "bite" as I'd like for a road pad. Standards, which offer the best road experience from this lot but I've yet to try on track.
Why not try Mazda pads? Better on the road than all the EBC pads and not bad on track if na. Also dust a lot less and last longer.MX-5 Lazza said:

I don't even know for sure what pads were on my old 1.6 as I never had to change them! But I think OEM as they were fitted by a Mazda dealer.
They were on the car when I got it and still had heaps of meat left 2 hard years (including 3 trackdays) later when I sold it. Stopped hard every time and never felt like fade was even going to be an option - more than good enough for standard power levels and road tyres.
