Absolutely superb driving
Since all the manufacturers still exist I think
they should be forced to reinvent group B with the original cars
and do away with all this new WRC bks......................
If you are going to go rallying
shout DO IT PROPERLY !!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree moreclap,

What was going through the drivers minds as the drove Harry Flatters on a road full of spectators, just 'hoping' they'd all move out of the waywobble

I'm sure there's a Group B thread on here somewhere, but here's some Group B goodness from Portugal in 1985:

I cant begin to imagine how amazing it would be to see modern day WRC cars in that state of tune instead of the cars we've got now, their Ok but no where near as exciting to watch, hear or look at & its only going to get worse...

Or the co-driver! At least the driver has control over the car.

I'm shocked nobody's posted any photos yet, we don't usually need an excuse to bring out the Group B pics!

Here's some static ones I've taken:

There is nothing brave about stupid, idiotic, bell end spectators standing in front of rally cars.
In the end those imbeciles and very poor stage management contributed heavily to the downfall of group B.

Not to worry, every single rally related thread on PH usually turns into a group B appreciation due to the overwhelming hatred and contempt for WRC on here.

There are a series of video compilations on You Tube which bring back a lot of memories for me. Here's the first in the series:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3Mag3kA2J8&fea... Group B Pure Sound.

There are three or four of them from memory. My favourite bit is the Quattro at the end of this clip being driven through a series of corners on the slide the whole time. You can hear a Spaniard shouting 'Maricon' at the driver!

I like this one, especially the guy at the start holding his head in his hands like he just cannot believe what he's just witnessed

If you want to see these cars at least putting on a reasonable display then the Slowly Sideways Club will be running cars of this era on a stage at Race Retro Show, happening at Stonleigh Park 25 - 27 Feb 2011.

Those photos of that Peugeut 205 Turbo 16 ae fantastic, it's one of my favourite group B cars. When you think about it, something so small, so lightwight and with an engine in the back is a pretty crazy proposition!

+1 yes

...and the alloy cages, rocket fuel and, and, and.....

They're not actually very fast either - Gp A cars were soon faster over the same stages and look how much the WRC has come on since then. Don't get me wrong I like GpB cars, they're spectacular and historically significant but please take the rose tinted specs off.
I can't wait for the new season - it's been too long already and look what a change in regs did for F1!!

I wouldn't say they are not very fast, they clearly are extremely quick, but I do agree that they were quickly outdone by more "sensible" cars and would not be so competitive today. Huge BHP outputs mean little when suspension and traction technology like tyres and differentials came on so quickly. Even with 300bhp-ish outputs, the out-going WRC crop would leave the Group B cars behind, and that's with something like 200bhp lopped off the true output due to the air restrictors...

I love the Group B cars. Noisy, fast & just tremendous cars. Can you imagine what fun Mr Loeb would have in an Audi Sport Quattro or a Metro 6R4?

I wish.

Probably a better way of putting it smile
