My father in law is looking to change his car and has £2,000 to spend and wants a bit of comfort. Having looked around the best value in terms of mileage and spec seem to be Rover 75 and Jaguar X Type. The Rover in particular seems to have a lot of 1 or 2 owner cars with around 50k for this price.

Running costs/reliability are important. Is there anything else I should be thinking of? Any particular issues with the Rover such as parts availability?

Thanks!

Mondeo or Vectra.

Bit dull I know, but if value is the thing there are so many of these available, thats what makes them cheap.

Higher mileage Audi A4? Plenty around and very well built (thinking 2000/2001 at that price). The 1.9tdi is bomb proof and reliable?

I looked at Omegas earlier today and there are lots available under £2k with low miles or higher spec options.

Really? I'd have a Mondeo over an X-Type every time.

Get the jag and have it serviced at an independant. They will be the same price as the mondeo.
