I was wondering if anyone knew of a good company for insurance for the boat. I've had a look but you can't beat PH for recommendations.

I used www.craftinsure.com because the price was good and they didn't require a survey on a 1973 boat.

I've been using the broker Coleman Marine in Poole for many years, underwriter is Nav Gen, they were very good when I made a claim.

I would need a full survey done as the boat is older than 20. Thanks though.

Jon, also PM'd. I need to renew my boat insurance. Although I had to take half of it apart to get it into the garage and then put it back together again once it's in, and there are two cars now in front of it so it's pretty much impossible to steal for the winter months!!

I did ask what you mean by "boat". Mine's a 27 foot yacht, getting on 40 yrs old, and my insurance does not need a survey..

Sorry..... It is an 18ft Day boat with cabin and twin 18hp outboards. It isn't the most expensive beasty in the water but it is going to be kept at the docks in the winter, and moored on a Loch in the summer. Obviously in the winter the outboards will be removed. Noble want a survey on anything over 20 years.

OK...I've always used Craftinsure for dinghies and they are very good...altough anything really fast had to go via Noble.

GJW insure the big boat, our class association negotiated a "self survey" deal with them. Basically, they want a detailed history/inventory/photos of the boat (mine's about 4 pages!), you need to be making the right noises that you are sensible and seamanlike and you're not just trying to get round the survey for more sinister reasons (you'd be stupid to take chances in a yacht anyway!) and they will obviously negate any claim if you've been found to be telling porkies. But might be worth a go.

I would guess a significant proportion of the value and risk associated with your boat is your outboards anyway?
