Forza 3 - Newbie.

Despite all the raving about it and the raving about Forza 2 I never actually got to the point of buying either of the Forzas.
Until yesterday my new 360s came with Forza 3.
So i've started playing on it, bearing in mind i've never played a racing game since PGR2.
I have to say the difficulty level is abit all over the place. I picked amateur / easy to start with as i didn't want to throw myself in at the deep end, however I was winning everythign and easily.
So I upped it to medium whcih doesn't seem to alter any of the driving aids and still kpet winning things.
So i've put it onto hard. which turens some of the aids off and stuff and I seem to have found a suitable challenging level.
Do people tend to race with the set dfficulty levels or do you just customise your own? - Which of the aids are most useful / most difficult to race with off?
Have to say i'm enjoying the game but i'm not comepltly unable to tear myself away from it.
Just finsihed my first year, enjoying the Clio V6 very much - great little car.
VX220 is a bit of a pin, getting it to stop is difficult!
Now whats the deal with all this tuning -?? Do i need to be doing it? Does it make a great deal of difference in the one player game?
Online? - do you guys have an amateur night? I get the feeling i'd be massacared if i joineda normal nights racing.

I found if I wanted a close race against the AI, then I would use a stock car, if I wanted an easier life for the credits then I'd tune to the max PI suggested for the race, some series allow higher PI than shown on the event list but then you just walk away from the other cars.
In terms of difficulty I customised mine, no STC, no TC (unless R2/R1 as I just cannot put any power down on a pad without spinning every gear) simulation damage and highest difficulty, adds a small amount of extra credits to your victory earnings which will help...

I usually play in Manual with all aids off and cocpit view with the HUD and map off and the difficulty set to medium. I find it makes it more of a challenge and you learn the tracks quicker.
Tuning the cars usually makes you walk the races but if you take a car which is under powered and then just upgrade the brakes, suspension and pop a little weight out I find it makes the battles in the corners lots of fun.

You'll have seen by the number of Forza topics on here, there isn't really one amateur night, more like 3 different championships every week!
With the arrival of GT5 and F1 2010, the championships died down a bit, and we have more 1 night stuff now, feel free to join in any of them, everyone is welcome.
As for the driving aids, I drive with manual without clutch (can't be doing with the clutch on the pad), and braking line only. I use the braking line mostly so I do not miss my braking point and plough into the back of whoever I'm chasing, that's the best way to ruin both your races straight away.
For the AI I usually use hard difficulty, so I can tune the car to where I like but not get frustrated by the AI getting in the way...
To be honest I haven't touched the career mode in ages, i just race online all the time!

I'd customise - as you feel more confident you can remove/adjust as required. As a general rule i'd say the more aids you use - the slower the car will be - if you look at the top lb times they don't use any.I still use lots

e.g I spent 100k cr tuning a Range Rover - the offroader champ is only worth 10k doh
The PH races will generally need a tune to be competitive ( a box fresh car is going to be hard work) and the ability to increase/decrease dependant on results.

Hi welcome to forza 3.
I started off by tuning cars in career, but as said above it gets very easy againist the A1, plus it easts credits.
Now I look to do the races as cheaply as possible.
Give you an example I did the Vauxhall one make series the other night.
Instead of buying a new car, (I sold my vx220 in the AH years ago) to race, as I had nothing vauxhall in the garage. I went onto the AH, purchased a slightly tuned 220 for 4k
It had an engine swap and race brakes, plus first suspension upgrade, sold the brakes and engine swap back to the game.
Did the race with just the suspension mods.
I race with manual, all aids off, in car or bonnet cam.
won the races and series, pocketed the credits, stuck some unlocked graphics on the car, into the AH for 8k, sold and its not cost me anything and I have more credits to go shoppin /tuning with :-)
Tuning cars for PH races can be expensive, my Time attack series I ran cost me loads on cars and tuning parts etc, so I try to save cash for that.
Keep tabs on the AH, you can still make money easily from there, I look for cars listed too cheap on buy it now prices, get em, and either break for parts and sell stock back on AH or sell to the game. Find a list of the prize cars and avoid them, as they are only worth 100 credits if you sell them back, but others can be gold mnines.
Join us when we have some PH races, if you struggling for cars etc, let people know, we are always up for gifting tunes, cars etc to other forza drivers.
The racing can be amazingly close, last night at times we had 4 or 5 cars battling for the lead on certain tracks. great cleanish lol fun.

We seem to be a bit short on people for tonight's luxury barge race, so if Flying Banana is OK with it I can gift you my RS6. It was banned for being too quick in my hands, so even with little experience you should keep up.

I don't get it when people say they've done some tuning on a car but still need to fine tune it.. I just get in and drive it and think it'll do

I haven't done one yet, my collegue done it on Monday I think. She said it was pretty rubbish,lol! How did you find it?
