300 TDI Turbo Failed then over reved. Help Please
Discussion
Hi all,
Mt Turbo failed on my 300tdi. Came to rest on hard shoulder and switched the engine off, but it didn't stop . Massive over rev then I used 5th gear to stall.
Garage confirmed Turbo failure, but engine now has a misfire on at least one cylinder.
Is there a common reason for this misfire. Had head off, pistons level ( no bent rod) I suspect rings?? As paraffin drained quicker from no 3 + 4.
Also found a small crack in the head between the inlet valve seat and the exhaust valve seat. ( I think this has been there for a ling time looking at it)??
Any advise or help before I have to source another engine.
TIA
Frank

Over revving like this is normally due to a blocked breather causing the sump oil to be sucked into the engine through the inlet manifold (possibly linked to the turbo failure) and the engine using the oil as a fuel. The high revving is because the 'fuel' supply is unregulated. The other problem may have been something with the injector pump, which ma be why you now have a mis-fire.
