Hi there

My dad died last week, my mum wants to sell his car as she can't drive and it's no longer of use. It's a 2.5 turbodiesel, about 99,000 on the clock, a metallic light gold colour (I think). It has what looks like a climate control panel (couldn't see a snowflake symbol, but it has an econ button, and a digital display). It also has 7 seats, is a manual and has a towbar. Cloth interior.

Could you guys give me a rough value? I estimate between £5000 - £7000, but I think it'll probably be sold at auction.

I'll link it to a couple of D2 boards and you may get some interest.

Good luck and sorry to hear of your loss.

I would also like to offer my commiserations on your sad news.

Moving onto the valuation the car in question looks like an S spec (low spec) model, 11yrs old and with approx 100,000mls so I would put it's market value at between £2500 and £3200.

It's got 'Special Vehicles' decals on the wings. What's been fiddled with? This can sometimes bump up the value.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I would look at e-bay and click on 'completed sales' withing a 50m radius of your post code to see what similar cars have been selling for. Most of these in good nick seem to be going for £4k or more, but you can buy very late (04) with high spec for about £8k, so I'd go for about £4,500.

Post a couple of ads up on the various landrover forums and you will get a better price than an auction. Try googling LRO and landytown.

The family friend apparently can't get insured on it, so I'm going to sort it out on Monday. I think a private sale would yield a bit more money as well, and mum isn't desperate for the money, so I'll bung a few ads up here and there once its insured for me.

Hi again. All sorted now, insured for 12 months for £240ish. Bargain if you ask me.

There are a couple of minor faults I'd like to repair as I put it on sale. The first is that the rear windows don't appear to wind up or down. The switches on the console do nothing. The childlock button doesn't click-to-make, it just pushes in and springs back out. Is this faulty?

Secondly, a bulb is out on the binnacle, lower right near the fuel gauge. How do I get in there to replace it?

Also, are the climate control buttons supposed to be backlit, or do they remain dark?

The LCD is lit up, its just the buttons underneath that aren't. Oh well.

Another thing I've discovered is that the digital odometer also isn't backlit. That's something else I need to fix.

Thanks for the help all. Sold it privately for £3,300, to a man who saw the A4 adverts I'd placed in the car's windows. I knocked the price down a fair bit as the rear windows weren't working, and its tax, MOT and service were all due.

The bloke seems quite happy so hopefully he'll get many years of reliable motoring from her smile

Good to hear that POD, though at that price I'd have been tempted.

Thanks. I was going to MOT it next week anyway but the chap obviously wanted it today. Funnily enough I had another interested buyer around today, who'd also seen the ad I'd placed in the windows. She actually came back just as I was polishing it for the chap who bought it, and was going to make me an offer, but a deal's a deal in my book.
