Just been in touch with my insurance company about renewing of my policy for the Tamora £400 great same as last year.
They then went through all the usual questons have i, do i, yes, yes, yes, then they asked if there where any modifications? I hesitated and then said yes I had the exhaust replaced with a s/s one. Big mistake that will be another £200 please plus £150 ontop of my access.
I have been on and off the phone to them trying to explain this has nothing to do with higher speeds just a great sound to no avail now I am so mad I am going through all the insurance companys trying to get a better quote.
Your thoughts ladys and gents do I pay up or take the sports exhaust off.
The money is not the issue its the principle I wish I was not so honest.

Switch insurance companies to one that isn't so bothered about minor mods.

Change insurance companies, I wouldn't stand for that!
Have you tried Mannings, Henderson Taylor and Richard Egger?

It's nothing to do with "speed" or power as such; it's how they rate you as a risk. Now I'm not saying that I agree with the insurance company in your case, but I think that most people would agree that when you are assessing the insurance risk of say, a 1.2 corsa, whether the owner has a modified exhaust might tell you quite a lot about whether they want to use the car as a basic a to b machine, or as a max power machine.

Your best bet, IMHO would be to not argue on terms of power etc, but state simply that the standard TVR exhaust was made from s-s, and as the company no longer exists per SE, you were simply trying to replace the original for as close as possible to like-for like.

I wouldn't normally advocate such things but isn't discretion the better part of valor? Philosophers have argued through the ages what represents a "standard" TVR. I'm sure there was one Wednesday in May 2004 when all T350s had sports exhausts? whistle. I've certainly never troubled my insurance company about it, or the fact that I've swapped the original cream-cheese wheels. Or modified the bonnet catch so that it actually works...

MSM cheapest for me too and I don't recall them asking about mods.

If you own a hand built bespoke sports car, which is several years old, and has had several previous owners, how are on earth are you expected to know what was standard and what is a mod anyway? confused

+1, I phoned MSM in the summer to say I was about to fit a set a Gaz Gold Pros.

When I asked them what difference the new dampers would make they just said we will note it on your policy but there will be no charge.

I would say its likely they would be even less bothered about an exhaust.

The service from MSM is excellent too, they really looked after me when a guy opened his van door into my car in France.

Oh, and they were the cheapest quote when I was looking to switch from Direct Line.

So I have just given them my homes & contents business & that worked out cheaper too.

I can thoroughly recommend MSM.

As per everyone else - MSM.
They weren't fussed about my JP exhaust or Racing Red shocks, they also have fantastic customer service, are cheap and great to deal with should the worst happen. I've also switched my home insurance over as per the poster above due to the level of service received.

Just because they didn't ask doesn't mean you shouldn't declare them if you have any!!

Thanks for all your comments I have taken them on board
I am going up to HHC this weekend with the car I will ask them there opinion about the exhaust.
It has also made me think about other aspects of my car like I have 18" wheels is this a mod, I have tuscan seats again these are not standard and what is standard on the cars that where finished off after tvr closed.

Just rang msm and the lovely lady is sending me a quote fingers crossed.
I cannot beleave this insurance campany,on the morning I was a loyal customer but by dinner time they did not want to know me how fickle.

TVR specialist insurer every time for me. I don't want to be messed about by some call centre in India (remember the Clarkson sketch on TG where he tries to get a quote on a Veyron?). A specialist insurer will give you the best treatment.
