The lens coating has been knackered. Can it be removed cheaply in any way?

now days the cost to buy/replace lenses has reduced (varifocals more expensive than single vision however) that you will be better off replacing the lenses rather than having the coating removed.
if the glasses are over a year old then don't bother with removing the coating as you are probably due an eye test soon anyway(usually we have a 2 year recall) and may have to change glasses if vision has changed.
