Nice!

I get mine from Mailshots or 7 Dayshop, normally the best prices but 7DS can be slow on delivery Mailshots are normally very quick. Some Boots stores still do processing but there are plenty of places still doing it, I get mine done at Peak Imaging in Sheffield by mail order, not the cheapest but very good quality. Some Tescos and Asda stores have a film lab, its cheap but expect the negs to be covered in crap and fingerprints and not cut very well frown

Tesco prints have the appearance of coming off a dye-sub printer which puts me off instantly. Asda generally use industry standard Fuji Frontier photo printers and Epsom inkjets for the large stuff. IME some stores fail on quality control but my nearest Asda Photo has such a good reputation many local pros use it for proofs, small prints and quick turnaround jobs.

In my Nikon F5 I mainly use Fuji 160NPS for portraits and use club 35 in London to process and scan. I found after testing a range of developers Club 35 are the best price / quality mix. Beware people like peak imaging that are overpriced for a mediocre service, did dreadful scanning, were arrogant and dismissive when questioned and as a consequence have lost mine and my company's business.

As an aside I used to put B&W film through it but realised that shooting colour gives far more post processing options and actually produces better B&W images. Unless of course you go for top end film, processing and printing from the likes of Ilford.

So far Peak have been fine for me but I only use them for developing, I do my own scanning and printing at home. I will look at Club 35 always good to have a few options!

The mir link didn't seem to work but if you have bought an EM then well done. To this day still the smallest SLR made by Nikon and I paid £6 post free for mine on fleabay. Just make sure it's got fresh batteries.

It is of course a downward spiral - if you like aperture priority film bodies then let me intoduce you to the F3. You know it makes sense

7 day shop is good for 35mm - but deals can crop up all over the place. Boots had five rolls of ISO200 36exp for £8 the other day and there are any number of places to get dev/print/Cd done. Snappy Snaps are still around in places. Enjoy the EM.

ETA used these guys lately for 35mm and the 120 from my Holga

Scott,

Out of interest, why did you get a Nikon, good as it is, rather than a digital camera?

First camera? or just a sort of interest camera?

Personally I have about 20 odd old cameras, including a 4 x 5 MPP, old 120 Kodaks, box Brownies, and one folding Kodak, which takes a 116 film which has been out of stock for about at least 30 years or more.

Thing with the 116, you could put the neg in a light box, and being postcard size, put a bit of paper over it, expose it, and have a postcard print, no enlarger needed.

I read in the manual it can operate without, is this true?

I have digital aswell. I was given it by a friend.

Edit. I also have a roll of film. ISO 400 but no batteries. I may cheat and use my digi camera as a lightmeter. hehe

Finding batteries should not be a problem, I found an equivalent for my 69 vintage Pentax SPII, which I bought new in Hong Kong for £69.

By comparrison to days modern digi SLR's, its bloody heavy.

Now that looks like a bit of kit!

Well I was lucky enough to find some batteries in the house last night and I had a play without some film to get the basic understandings of it. In a nutshell it shoots in AV mode.

There is a little slider at the side inside the viewfinder which points to the shutter speed although this is a bit jumpy and doesnt like some of the apeture settings. It beeps at me aswell if its too slow to hand hold.

I have loaded the film now so I shall see what I can find. It is a roll of 36 exp 400 Kodak Ultramax.

Cheers for your help.

An old 5 x 4 I picked up for £30.00 in a "Junk shop", works fine, a lot to be said for the old cameras, MPP tell me it's probably early 50's, bet your Nikon will carry on working for eons of time.
