I've fitted a new battery to my boxster today. Its a non porsche item. It's a perfect fit, apart from the venting hole, which is to small to allow fitment of the venting tube into it. Is this going to cause a problem. Whats the purpose of the venting tube, were does it go. Your help will be appreciated.

As a battery is charged it gives off hydrogen, which is an explosive gas - the space shuttle main engines run on the stuff. The venting tube is to make sure any hydrogen is piped to a place of safety...normally somewhere it can enter a moving airflow and then be dispersed. However, many cars don't have such a tube (none of mine do) so I don't think it's that big a risk?
