Had a wheel bearing replaced 15,000 miles ago in the Mondeo, but now I'm getting a rumbling sound from the same wheel when driving in a straight line. Whats more is that the rumbling turns to thudding when turning round corners. The noise remains no-matter what you do with the gearbox or clutch so its not the drivetrain.

Tyres have been changed to no effect. I've had the car jacked up and theres no play or noise when turning the wheel which makes me doubt its a bearing - but what other suspension part can replicate these two noises?

CV joint would get my vote.

Worth checking your wheel nuts, heard more stupid things happening than even clued up people not thinking to check them!

Is it of any consideration that it doesnt thud when in reverse? Put simply, driving into a tight gap it thuds, reversing into a tight gap it doesnt.
