Hi, A property I rent out has a boiler in the outhouse which obviously gets very cold. This outbuilding has a frost stat. As you can imagine, this would make the boiler run all night in this weather as there is only heat being emitted from the boiler itself (& its nearby pipework of course)

I therefore added a pipe stat into the frost stat circuit. This makes sure that the boiler only fires when the return pipe from the heating gets as low as about 4 deg IIRC

Hope this info helps

I think that my Gas Bill is too high, which, culminating with some Boiler issues is starting to worry me.

It seems that my Boiler turns on independently of the Timer. ie Timer is OFF and for a few minutes the Boiler will fire.

No input from Radiators or Taps in regard to it firing because of a user.

I wondered about a Frost Stat but... ... I'm not sure whether it has always done it but something must have changed for me to notice.

Combined with a 10,000kWh averaging 124kWh over the period May- July 2010 Gas usage.

I have not turned the Heating on until October this year.

  • One Bedroom
  • Top Floor Flat
  • Gas Central Heating
  • Gas Oven/ Cooker
Any opinions or thoughts greatly appreciated. I am going to try and compare to last year but it seems a lot frown
Is it a reletively new boiler combi boiler? If so it may have one of these small hot water cylinders inside that provide instant hot water! If it does they turn over every so often to keep the water warm. This feature can be turned off.
