Right now I do a weekly back up of my music file from my lappy to my NAS drive (and the same for pics, home video & movies - the NAS having just 4 folders on it for music, pics, video & film)

Is that all thats needed for a SONOS unit to deal with? How does it (or can it not) handle playlists etc? (oh...and I assume its the go to system? I want that NAS music avalible in 3 or 4 different rooms controlled by iphones/pads)

I have a couple of Squeezeboxes and a nas and you just tell the squeezebox server application where your music and playlists are stored. I presume it is the same for a Sonos(?)

Yes, just point the Sonos at the folder with your music in it on the NAS during setup and you'll be fine. You need to update the music index from the Sonos when you add new tracks to the NAS, which is a menu option and takes a few seconds, depending on the size of your collection.

You can get itunes playlists to work through Sonos, but it's a bit clunky. You need to set up the playlist in iTunes then import it into Sonos - can't remember exactly how as I tend to use playlists created in the Sonos itself, which is simple.
