Hello,

I'm currently weighing up some options of moving to Holland, possibly around the Utrecht area. I was wondering if any of the Dutch Wedgers could tell me what the approximate costs are of taxing/insuring/testing a TVR. I have a RHD 1986 350i. As a comparision, in the UK we pay around 370 Euros for insurance each year, 250 Euros for road tax and about 40 Euros for car testing.

Is there anything I should be aware of when exporting such a car, apart from the usual adapting the headlights etc?

Many thanks and hope to hear from a few of you very soon.

Dan.

Hi Daniel -

So you really are going to live in Holland?

Whilst there is free movement of cars throughout Europe - or supposed to be - the cost of registration in each country varies.

Hope it all goes well.

and SPOTTED ( 6 months ago)...

I was being driven along a dual carriageway near Amsterdam and the conversation turned to "what car do you have". So I tried explaining to a Dutchman about TVR's and the wedge shaped one I have.

Then blow me if a white wedge didn't drive past in the other direction about 2 minutes later!

I think it was a convertible and probably early 80's judging by the styling. Holland plates. So if that was you....

Hello Daniel,

There aren't many wedges here so it would be great if you moved to holland!!!! I live in Harmelen which is about 8 miles east of utrecht and own a 1988 350i which i imported from England about a year and a half ago. My brother did the same a few months later and has a 1990 350i. We are bit of a TVR familiy as my father owns a new type griffith and a 1969 vixen. He was untill two months ago the chairmen of the dutch TVR Car Club (which is a small and very sociable club with some 200 members) and still is a boardmember. He owns a insurance office and has special TVR member prices. The price depends on the valuation but will be about 250-300 euro. Road tax is about 350 euro's a year. Let me know if you decide to move, maybe we can meet and have a pint!

Greetings,
Bernard Hardy
