Can anyone help!
The better half has come home tonight and can't open the boot on her Mk2.
The interior boot pop feels like it isn't connected to anything, and the key does nothing in the boot lock.
The Mrs is stressing as she's got stuff in the boot she'd quite like to get out but I've not got a clue. confused

Have you tried pushing down (hard) on the boot lid? It might not quite be latched properly.

Just gave that a try....no luck. grumpy
Tryed some WD-40 in the lock, it's all moving fine, so not iced up, if feels like a cable has snapped somewhere, but no idea how to get in to fix it.

Obviously if there is a 'secret' way in, probably best not to post it on an open forum, but feel free to pm me, you can see the MX-5 in question in my profile. wink

I think if she saw me going anywhere near the car with the Black & Decker she'd be a little unpleased! eek
I have read something similar on another MX5 forum though. wink
I've dispatched her off to the local MX5 specialist this morning to see if he can help.....it'll be be no win no fee though...her handbag is in there! hehe

It's open!
The Mk1 fix doesn't work on Mk2's wink
Took over an hour of hard graft and logical thinking from Steve @ 5-Speed to get in it.
Turned out to be an issue with the aftermarket Alarm/boot pop solenoid jamming the boot lock mech, all sorted now and a long term fix for the boot pop is on the cards. smile

I understand your concern, but cutting a hole in your car isn't exactly fast, or easy. The 2 things that attract thieves.

If I were a thief I would cut open the roof (or break the window) and open the trunk from the inside (how many people disconnect there trunk release cable?). If it doesn't work, I'd move on. Generally a thief is going to look for a target of opportunity because he (usually) doesn't know what you have in your trunk. I'm not saying that a thief wont use the method that I listed (but was deleted) to break into your trunk. Consider it this way, what thief is going to spend 30+ minutes breaking into your trunk (using power tools), not knowing what is in there. Although, I do see how a thief could search specifically for mx5s with this hole in it, but its still slower than the trunk release inside the car (even if you lock the console).

Anyway, as per my previous instructions, the sides might be reversed (i doubt it though) on a RHD car, if your car is RHD, i would consider finding another one to compare to make sure you make the hole in the right spot (if you decide to go this route).

Edit: NM just saw you got it fixed
