I need a new intercom. Firstly, it's a bike engined car so needs to be top quality to overcome the din! Two full face helmet kits, inputs for mobile phone, sat nav, music and walkie-talkie. Anyone reccomend one they have used to good effect? Thanks!

I use an Autocom system.

Designed for a bike, so the noise isn't a problem, has several inputs, you just need/make the right leads.

Any of the various Scala systems are brilliant.

yes I bought the Scala Rider Q2 multiset system this year and what a top bit of kit, Bluetooth between headsets and your phone, FM radio built in (never use it!) even a small jack on the back to connect the Satnav (via a cable)

I went for a system without cables as I knew I would jump out the car with all the wires still connected

If it is just for two people and in one car then cardo headsets will work well. Use one on my bike and it's very good. If you want to be able to talk to people in other vehicles then you want to be looking at either the autocom systems or the starcom systems. These can both be powered by the vehicle and are designed for bike use so are compact and capable of dealing with the noise.

Starcom 1-digital seems to be the one. 2 headsets, Bluetooth connectivity for phones / satnav and able to use a Kenwood walkie-talkie for about £340. The Autocom site I found really confusing!!! And I think the one I want is nearly £500, so giving that one a miss!

I went through two Oxford systems and a Nady before I did what I should have done in the first place and bought an Autocom.

The 'vox' facility is very handy as it shuts off the system until you speak so it's not constantly picking up and amplifying the background noise.

The only advice I can give is "don't bother with a cheap and nasty from e#ay"!

I bought one from Hong Kong for £7 inc p&p and it's fine, albeit extremely uncomfortable, under 30mph but useless after that!

I will watch with interest.

I have had 3 of the Sparco Profi things from Demon-Tweeks over the last 7 years, for £60'ish at the time they worked fine up until the point where they just die for no apparent reason. The last one died at the start of a 10 day Alps tour, just before we got to Dover on the first morning...
Utter st, ruined the holiday a bit as screaming at each other through crash helmets was a bit tiring. They start at about £100 battery powered, rising to £150 for the luxury of 3" of live and earth wire sticking out. Rubbish.

Autocom mate...When I get the Phoenix back you can nip round and look at mine. Bluetooth for Phone & SatNav, Motorola Radio and talking to the passenger as well.

Active Plus, which is one of their old models and I bought it off ebay. The equivalent in the current range is the L-1 Logic. Get the base unit, 2 headsets & the bluetooth module and it should be everything you need. I added a Motorola Radio to mine which works well between cars.

We use Autocom as well and we've never had a single complaint about the system as it just works perfectly.

Just had a look at their website and the earpice looks quite big. Is it comfortable inside a helmet?

I can only speak for the one I've got which is Scala Teamset, & yes the earpiece is quite large - about 20mm dia I guess, but it is really thin (probs 3 or 4mm?) & just velcro's to the inside of the helmet lining in the recess outside of the ear, the only reason you know it's there when the helmet is on is if someone speaks to you thro' it! smile
