bonnet rods

just snapped the bolt off in my bonnet rod whilst changing the nylon roller bushes. dont suppose anyone has a spare bonnet rod (the horizontal one that runs full width side to side)? if not it's bellhill/tvr dean etc

Alli tube x 2
Screw in eye x 1
Screw in right angle

Run the Eye over your main cross bar = new bonnet stay


Fix eye in middle of cross member with 2 cable ties or similar or just use one tie & have the support sliding which i find better as you can position it so it doesn't touch anything when closed

Del thanks but its the main side to side aluminium bar that the nylon bonnet bushes are bolted to that i have snapped not the bonnet strut !

I bought the latests Steve Heath upgraded bonnet stay that also includes this complete bar.
It's not too expensive and it's a huge improvement.

If you can't find a standard one it may be a good solution?

From memory I thought there was a threaded bush moulded in the bonnet into which the plastic roller is bolted. The bolt is longer than required to hold the roller so it passes right through the bush and fixes the bar as well. Has been a while since having that apart so may have remembered it wrong.

steve - you are right. the stainless steel bolt sheared off where it enters the threded bolt that is bonded into the bonnet - its going to be great fun getting that out!

Thats why i said 2 rods




Do you have the bar off already ? If not take the other side off i would've thought there would be enough of the remaining bolt to get some moles on...

del - that worked thanks - a combination of drilling out the snapped bolt from the "outside" and then filing the bolt flat and using mole grips on the "inside" got it out -- what a bugger of a job!
