They are bloody good value. I think the OP means "relatively speaking".
I've been hankering after a C55 for a wee while now and there are very few for sale.
That's all for me. I'm off to study the classifieds biggrin

Yes seems plenty of e55 as about 10 on p/h & 20 on autotrader but no c55 & only 4 on auto trader!
Is it because the e55 is a better car?

Why do you prefer the c 55 to e 55? i seem to get the feeling that they are the same price but e 55 supercharged & more power? is the c55 a bit smaller?

If anyone finds a (very rare) W202 C55 on their travels , let me know .

2003 onward E55 is probably a better prospect than a C55 W203 , just because its a newer design , much more powerful and about the same price with more to chose from and lots of upgrade options .

I looked at one 2 years ago, they only sold either 59 or 69 C55's in the UK, looking at the number not on sale would back up what a good car they are.

I couldn't justify 19k on one! I think that C32 are the bargain version.

I had an E55 AMG for a couple of years. I must say - fantastic car!

I wouldn't want to own one without a good warranty though - not the most reliable car I had (mine was an '03 car).

I have driven/owned a number of powerful cars, and I can safely say that I enjoy the power delivery of the supercharged 55 AMG engine more than any - including my current 997 turbo.

The only thing I would change if I got another, is to make sure I got it in black - looks so much nicer, and sat nav - mine was a pain to sell without, and also replace the exhaust - it's far too muted in my opinion!

I have driven a CLK55 AMG without the supercharged engine, and I can't say I am very keen on it - from the 2 you listed I would take the E55 any day.

Yes, funny just what i was thinking, seems that customer service is not merc strong point & c32 seems cheaper/less to go wrong, good performance, the only draw back is i do like the sound of a V8!!!

I think I saw one in the PH classifieds a month or two back. I too was stunned.

C55 is a great car i looked at C55 and E55 and chose the C55 its a sportier drive and not a lot smaller.
It goes quicker than you will ever need infact over 155 in a car of this type is just scary they top out at just over 173 which suprised me.
With the badges taken off its a great Q car but you do hear it a way off.

only negative is on both C&E class AMG cars they dont have a very big fuel tank (my 911 has 89litres)

I think that's where the E class/5 series sized cars excel well ahead of the C class/3 series cars.

An indicated 160 in an E55, and an indicated 165 in a 535d feels very safe and planted. That kind of speed in even an M3 would feel nervous.

The C55 may seem sportier, but if that's what you want why not get an M3 or CLK55 (unless you really need the 4 doors).

The engine in the E55 is miles ahead in power than that in the C/CLK55 (assuming we're talking about the W211 E class)

I have to disagree with you on this one vinnie, I think that any car of this type over 155 is stupid, I also have a 911 which is 1/3 of the weight if you want to go balistic do it in a car that stops.

Try breaking from 160-170 in any super saloon/ estate BMW Audi Merc all are poor compared to a proper GT/ sports car.

Inside the envalope the C is a better drive i drove C E and M5T and bought the C but its all personal taste, my car had the F1 pack and was derestricted so that helped.

i also looked at a cyane Turbo but again try stopping one.

Of course, the stopping power in these 'super saloons' is never going to be as good as porsche/ferrari etc.

And the handling in the C55 (esp with the F1 pack) may be better. But for the purpose of long distance cruising and high speed cruising, the E class walks it IMO.

I will admit, I have a soft spot for the E55 (or in fact any supercharged 55). It is simply the most entertaining engine I've ever driven! Maybe not the most refined etc, but I can honestly say that's my favourite engine!
