Temp gauge started going into red on a drive at approx 50mph
Garage collected it for me they tried stat/rad then I have done the rest.
and it has had:
New stat (without jiggle pin)
new Radiator
new water pump
new Heater control Valve
it will idle happily then the fan cuts in, heater in car remains cold
it appears as no flow through Stat, suspecting an Airlock
are there specific procedures for filling the cooling system?
looking into engine bay rad hose (right hand side) gets hot as do the two pipes onto the HCV
the left hand rad pipe that goes to the stat housing under the alternator remains cold.
when I get some time I was going to drill a small hole in the new stat to allow a little flow(try to allow air out)
I tried bypassing the HCV this made no difference.
any suggestions greatly received as this is now getting expensive
and tiresome.

some poeple say tht its best to refill the cooling system after a flush or change (basically completely empty to re-fill) that to pour it in through the expansion tank..
but I've found (thanks to my dad) its easier to remove the hose from the block (at top of engine, leading in to water pump or block itself (every engine is different)) and pour water into this until it over flows and then quickly refit to teh engine block.
This will fill the radiator first, rathen then pouring into the expansion tank and waiting for the thermostat to open and fill the radiator, by which time you have to pour more water into the expansion tank to fill the engine, which is also cold and would close up the stat again etc.. a length process and ball ache.
Other to that look up how much your cooling system should take and keep this in mind when your filling up, for ex, my tvr takes 12 litres of coolant, compared to my corsa that only takes half as much
