Now I get it when classic cars are given 21st century makeovers, improving performance and reliability but they should never take away its character.

This is one of my all time favourite 'cool' cars.....shame really

This car may be better suited in the 'Badly Modified' thread.

I like it, as it looks like it's been done well.

I get where you're coming from but to be totally honest I'd love to have that as a weekend car. Your objection ("it's not original") isn't lost on me but if it had a "new" engine to the old design (because, for example, something catastrophic had happened to the original one), would that be totally different for you?

Stuff like this, which seems at first glance to have been done to a good specification (and using parts from the original manufacturer, albeit 50 years newer!) keeps the marque going. I'd much rather have this pootling about on the lanes of England than not have any jag mark 2's for people to point at and say "there goes Inspector Morses car". Does it matter that it sounds different, and goes faster? Not to me.

Just my tuppenceworth

I think that's awesome, great looks and modern car comfort. Everyone has their own tastes though, part of me would have liked to seen a classic styled interior.

Airbag looks a little obvious, but I presume it could be re-trimmed to give it an illusion of being less bulky,
and the radio, climate control area could do with the same treatment.

Otherwise looks cloud9

My point was more directed at the interior, as I said I'm all for improving a classic cars performance and reliability but when you replace a beautiful handmade interior for a mass produced retro fit then for me it's such a shame.

Now, I'm all up for modernising some classics, some of them were way impractical and doing this has bought many a forgotten classic, back to the road.

However, are you all fking blind??? Did you not see what happened with the interior? The engine I like! But the interior, that steering wheel! Ghastly!! All that plasticky woodgrain, the steering wheel, the huge clock surround of horrid plasticky wood, that steering wheel! Oh and did I mention the steering wheel, horible! The front seats don't look totally right either but the steering wheel overwhelmed that!

Steering wheel was the first thing that cought my eye - looks almost too big, and not right somehow.

If it were done to a truly rare car (say less than ten), then I'd view it as unethical, but that's pretty awesome in principle. Was this the car from Ian Banks' "The Bridge" that he crashed into the Forth Road Bridge? ETA- agree w/ interior comments. I'd rather it was original anywhere I could see.

This is how to modify a MkII

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I think it looks great!

However, that one in the classifieds does nothing for me, think the interior is hideous

Eta. Its obviously been done very well, and had alot of money spent on it. I would just rather a more classic looking interior that fits with the rest of the car. The interior of an original MK 2, looks a very nice place to be, and I think would feel pretty special. That car, to me, would just take that 'special' feeling away I think.

I agree on the steering wheel and dash/centre console. Other than that I love it.

if I were retired, I'd consider one, but at present I just don't like the interior.

plus, for £10k less you could have a genuine coombes modified mk2.
