Best range with current car

Just got back from a 500 mile round drive yesterday and unfortunately didn't make it on one tank.

I did get my best range though at 458 miles before I bottled it and pulled in for petrol.

Worked out at roughly 30mpg which wasn't bad I thought with the boot and back seats loaded with equipment and several jaunts into town.

Vehicle was a Celsior/LS400

What's your best range with your current car?

EDIT: as requested the engine is a 4.0 32valve V8 with 260hp (no EGR and performance exhaust) and the tank holds 80 litres

I have not tried it but well over 650 should be possible with my Golf 130 tdi

I was thinking last week wether or not i should add a best and worst range column to the mpg wikis....

Tom ford mananged just over 1000 miles in the car I just ordered (BMW 320d ED). Current TT has managed just over 500 miles with a lot of care, but it's too slow at that sort of mpg to be practical.

Put another way, the BMW is more economical at 100 leptons than the TT is at 50 leptons. Bizarre, no?

Actually I'd be very interested by that. You could do PH average MPG stuff if you wanted.

There ought to be a way for this stuff to be centrally recorded. It'd be lovely if petrol stations could top up your tank while at the same time recording mpg and things like that (but of course privacy issues and the total apathy of people who don't "get it" would stop such notions).

There are plenty of apps for that if you have a smartphone...

327 miles on one tank, with 23 mile indicated remaining on the computer in my MkII Focus RS yesterday, sitting between 70-80

Yes, yes, but unless the smartphone is reading OBD2 values it's requiring me to have to input the data, which is about the most stupid thing ever (getting one computer to talk to another via a human).

I may be wrong, but I think there's co android app which does that, via a Bluetooth obd reader... if not, there should be!

I think you should need to post your power output too.. I don't really care if you can do 700 miles on a tank if the vehicle in question is barely capable of independent movement, but if you do, say, 400 miles with as many horsepower, now you're talking

Sadly, I still lose, because my 150bhp will still only let me do 380 to a tank if I'm careful.

Surely this is more to do with the size of fuel tank you have than mpg's?

The BMW I mentioned has 163bhp, and does 0-60 in 8s and 142mph flat out.
