Hi Guys,

moved the pug 306 for the first time in about ten days. Brake calipers were super stuck, but got her rolling.

However, turns out that I snapped a spring in the process, which then wore through the tyre and KABOOM!

So now the pug is stranded back on my drive in Falkirk.

I am hoping that it is simple as doing the springs on the front and a new tyre, but I need to get it to a garge to start with.

Any help on getting it to a garage, or even advice on the fix, would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Regards

Bob

It happened to me in my BMW E46

the wife drove over a speed hump spring snapped and went strait through the tyre

front spoiler was sitting on the ground couldn't even get it on to a flat bed recovery truck

eventually I used my trolley jack got the car up high and moved the spring as much out the way as possible

and put a block of wood( like a corner of a pallet)in it's place with plastic tie cords and a couple

of bungees

lowered the car and was able to drive 4 miles home with the hazards on and a friend in his car behind me

Do you have a particular garage that you use in Falkirk? or were you talking about your own garage?
Got a friend that has his own garage in Bonnybridge, but also happens to have his own recovery truck. Depending on what work you need done, i'm sure he would collect. Very reasonable and honest, which isn't always the case.

If any good and i'll pm you detail.
Kenny.

Hi guys very much for the responses.

I have been trying jiggery pokery with it all afternoon, to do a similar trick as the bit of wood to gag the shock.

I have now come to the conclusion that I am going to fit 2 new springs myself, hence not move the car at all.

I have been doing lots of reading up on what to do, and I am optimistic!

However, if you know anyone that could spare a couple of hours to assist/keep me right... then just let me know :O)

Many thanks for the help guys!

Are you just changing the springs on the pug. Opps can't remember, was it front or back. It's not that hard a job, unless it's a fancy system. My Audi is a bit of a nightmare, but a lot of cars are or can be fairly easy.
Where about in Falkirk are you?

It is both front springs I am going to replace on the pug. From what I have read, it looks reasonably straight forward. But I am sure there will be things that do not go according to plan.

I am In the Lionthorn Estate.

I have got the use of another car at the moment, so I may even wait until the Christmas Hols to have a go at it.......

Thanks again for the help.

Give me a yell if you're stuck Bob. I've changed springs on several vehicles and it was only the Z4 that stumped us: the dampers work in a strange way and the shafts disappeared mostly inside the body of the damper when we removed the top caps! Only problem is I don't have any tools (spring compressors are a must, etc) other than a fecking awesome trolley jack biggrin

Thanks Ally, I may well call in your expertise!

I have the spring compressors organised.... I must get skooshing all the bolts with WD 40 tonight.... try and loosen em up a bit.
I think I will be focusing on putting up my millions christmas lights this weekend.

Might dabble with the car on Sunday to suss (no pun intended) it out for working on at a later date.

Bob

How was the Z4 in the snow Ally?.......well I know the answer to that.... pants!

Funnily enough, the car I am getting to run around in for now is a z4.....just a 2 litre chappy.

Ha, the Z4's been OK but probably helped by me changing to winter tyres. Just the lack of ground clearance that's stopped me using it more. MTB is the way forward for commuting at the moment...

BTW I ain't an expert!!! I've just been the spanner monkey help from my father-in-law when it's come to working on the cars or the van. We've always managed to find decent step-by-step guides on user forums for the vehicles we've worked on, and generally we've been fine.

I've got spring compressors, trolly jacks, tools etc. I just live the other side of the hill from you!!
My hoose over looks the ash park (prospect hill), not sure what plans i have for the weekend, but might be able to pop along to make sure Ally doesn't break your car!!! I'm sure his mechanic skill are far better than his driving - ha ha.

I'll be at the gym all day of Friday, so you can give me a bell there if you want and i might have a time to give a hand for a few hours. Failing that i've got all the tools you would need.
Kenny.

Not sure what your trying to say Ally;

Your mountain bike is faster than your Z4?
You are challenging me to a fight while sitting on your m/bike/
If i was on a m/bike you could go faster than me if i was also on a m/bike?
You've been drinking while posting and don't have a clue what your saying?

right, so the plan is: meet up and fit these springs, then get ally and kenny to fight on mountain bikes, few beers for the fans, a few iphone videos posted immedietely on the net, good day had by all!! (except for the two mangled bikes that will be lying in a corner)

Might be worth doing the drop links whilst you have the front end off it sir, they are about a tenner each from Peugeot and you have to take at least one end off to do the job anyway.....

It will be if you're trying to change the rear springs on a pug, total nightmare of a job.

Have seen folk try for weeks then give up and bring it to me instead.
