Afternoon all
Having the usual frozen condensate drain pipe problems, been nursing it with hot kettle etc for last 2 weeks.
My question is should the water coming out of the boiler (directly underneath) be very milky in colour, i ask this because i dismantled the drain pipes today to clean out the residue and blow it through with hot water, leaving the outlet at boiler end dripping into a bucket and the liquid is coming out very milky and it appears to have a few bits of residue in it.
I am wondering if it has been backed up as i could hear gurgling noises from the boiler and this was what prompted me to clean it all out.
The boiler is an Ideal Icos installed about 8 years ago by british gas and we had initial problems in first year as there was a gathering trap fitted just below the unit which would fill and then tumble its contents quickly down the outlet pipe.
This was removed after being replaced twice in favour of straight through pipe without a trap. The condensate pipe (15 mm plastic) now runs about 8 feet 6 inches below block paving and into the nearest drain after it exits the house, which in itself hasn,t been a problem, just the end has been freezing up.
I gather from reading the many posts on this subject that some people are fitting bigger diameter outlet pipes to cure this problem.

But is the liquid (condensate) supposed to be so milky ?
