Boot Wont Open?

Would appreciate some advice please guy's? As of last night our 05 Cooper has developed a problem with the boot opening- all doors lock boot won't then open. The first time it happened the boot did eventually open after I had driven the car for a while- used WD40 on the mecn but next time I locked the car the boot stuck again and won't re-open. Can hear the solenoid trying to work- any ideas as to cause and cure? and related cost to put it right if possible? Any advice much appreciated-Bloody frustrating tring to get my drum kit in and out of the car just now!

Had you washed the car a few days before this problem started?
Had the same thing... there is a snap-like connector going to the button actuator which is made of poor material and starts rusting after water ingress (from car wash's, pressure washers etc).
The repair is:
-open the boot manually (there is a special pull cable under the rear seats (must remove the base of the seats to get to the lever/cable
- once boot open, take off the door panel on it by unscrewing any relevant screws and 'popping' the panel off.
- the wiring loom present will go to the screen wiper motor and to the boot release button. check that cabling.. in particular the connector. pull it out, clean off any rust with a wire brush, re-crimp if necessary, wd40 and put back together, possibly with insulation tape to stop further rusting
- put everything back together
The other thing is the fuse... but IF the release command eventually went through when you started driving (like mine did) that suggests its definitely that faulty connector.
