With the aid of FestiveFerg (thanks FF!) I managed to get our non-functioning combi boiler going this morning. I thought this would gain me a hatful of brownie points with the missis, who was not amused by her cold shower and was looking distinctly miffed at the prospect of more of the same. We're back to being toasty warm and squeaky clean etc but instead of showering me with adoring looks the OH is instead thinking about a nice glass screen in the wetroom to replace the plastic shower curtain and rusty tin pole currently doing perfectly good service in there. I've measured the space and we'll be after an 800mm wide one, full height. Sounds easy enough, there are plenty on fleabay etc but no! She wants non-clear glass 'for privacy'. Not sure who from as the only other item in the wetroom is the lav and folk tend not to use that when someone's showering. Anyway, trouble is, the choice of translucent/frosty/coloured/anything other than clear glass screens seems to be zero. Anybody know of any?

Fitted one earlier in the year, sand blasted and coated with a film (cant remember trade name) which required no cleaning, excellent in hard water areas.
Supplied by Yeovil Glass & Windows for £1000.
Visit your local glazing suppliers.

Whoo that's a bit out of my league! Bathstore and their ilk do plain ones for £125 or thereabouts, I appreciate the proper job ones like yours will be a lot easier to clean but that's a hell of a premium. Thanks for the reply.

By the time the hot shower is running, a clear one gets steamed up anyway.

That's interesting stuff, shame they only do the long 2m rolls in 76cm widths when bath screens are 80cm wide.

my shower screen in my wet room is from the local glass shop to me... 10mm thick (not your crappy 8mm from bathstore) and 1.85m high and 800-900 long was about £140... but there is an issue with that...

You need to get clips cut into the glass and it cost £50 per clip (£25 for the clip and £25 for the cutting of the glass) and you need minimum of 4.

The clips

But it looks good:

Rain X is a good sub for the professionally-applied coatings, I'm told.

Is it two clips at the side and two at the bottom?

Ours is the bottom LH corner one with two red panels. It's a commercial screen supplied by our builder which is let into two channels inset into wall and floor respectively so it looks seamless. Not expensive, IIRC.

Yep, 2 at the bottom and 2 along the side and there should be one at the top with an arm to the ceiling... I decided not to take that one as the only way to wreck it is if you lean on it with your full weight at the corner not connected and Im not really going to be doing that, plus I think it looks cleaner without the arm.

Hi,

We get loads of these panels made up by our local glazier, just make sure that you specify toughened safety glass! And remember once its made in toughened glass you can't cut it or add holes for brackets etc.

I'd also recommend making a ply template of the space / shape you need in case your wall or floor are off level.

Cheers
Ian
