Hello,
New to the forum and just been looking through some of the other readers cars on here and thought i,d show some pictures of what my uncle and me have been building over the last few months for my auntie after the timing chain broke on her old engine
To cut a long story short my auntie wanted a better sounding engine put in instead of the 2.2 4 cylinder so we decided on a Rover V8 along with some new Gaz Gold dampers and a new respray as the paint was starting to bubble in places.
Heres the result so far -

And the final wieght on a local wieghbridge as a rough guide was 880Kg

Still running the engine in at the moment but its had about 600 miles put on it so far then the snow fell and spoiled play, roll on spring.
Sam.

Looks great! What power do these rover v8 engines give?
Not much at all unless seriously reworked, 150bhp ish.rover v8 forum said:
The first Rover V8 engine appeared in the P5 model in 1967, and in the P6 model in 1968. The V8 engine that appeared in the Rover SD1 in 1976 had some changes compared to its predecessors. The output power was increased from 143 bhp to 155 bhp at 5250 rpm, torque was slightly lower at 198 pounds per foot at 2.500 rpm instead of 202 pound per feet at 2.700 rpm.

its a good project, but unless seriously tweaked its a bit pointless, 150hp? thats only 5 more than std 2.2.
She should have just fitted a vse exhaust, mine sounds good!

The engine was from an 1986,ish range rover with the stronger block but the spec has completly changed now with high compresion piston,s revvyer cam etc and should put out a rather mild 200+bhp. My auntie doesnt do track days let alone passenger rides : >
That's brilliant!
As for the power issue the original SU carb'd V8s only made 155bhp, but by the end of SD1 production the Vitesses (EFI) were up to 190bhp from the 3.5. Looks like the OP has some sort of holley carb so with a cam too that should easily reach the 200bhp mark as stated. In my 1tonne+ TVR the 220bhp RV8 pushes me to 60 in around 5-6s so in the VX it should be a fairly rapid car with an epic soundtrack.
And the good thing is one the initial conversion is done there's plenty of bolt on upgrades. For example the 5.0 engine from a TVR will bolt straight in with 300bhp. Then you've got stroker kits, superchargers, turbos etc to take this even further!!
Aweseom project!!

That looks awesome, and I bet it has a soundtrack to match. Was it a difficult conversion?
Most conversions are difficult the first time round as you have to figure everything out for yourself but the second time would be alot easyer as theres not to much one off stuff to fabricate.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
