Hi,
I posted this on the Tamora forum, but it always seems a bit dead in there, I do need so advice concerning a Tamora I bought yesterday.
The car is 2002 (02 plate) bought 'semi-privatly'
Now, it sounds and drives great, but I can hear the tappets, is this normal? The brakes seem quite vague, but there's plenty on the pads, is this normal?
Finally, the car has done 10K miles, the last service was at 6015miles, however, I just re looked at the date of the last service, and it was on 30/10/2002!! (my fault for not looking at the service history a little closer!!) Also the LCD disply seems to have a mind of it's own, I can't see the info due to the disply being so bright!

Right,, here's the thing, do you guys recommend the Tam going for it's 12K service now, just to be on the safe side, as I can't sleep easy knowing I spent that much dosh on a car and not looking closely enough at the last service dates! The car seems to have just done nothing the past year,, everything works fine though.

Thank you very much in advance

Chris

Oh yes, the software for the 'onboard computer states that it is V 5.8, does that need updating, and can a TVR dealer update it when the car's serviced?

i would take it for a service asap as your supposed to have one at least every 12 months. i would take it to power or peninsula as in my experience they have well deserved reputations

Hi Chris,

Must have missed this one on the Tam forum.

My 52 plate is running software version 6.0 so you should ask them to upgrade this at the next service. Probably worth warning them in advance as they may need to get a new chip in.

Not totally sure what your problem is with LCD but it might be worth reducing the contrast as that seemed to do the trick with mine.

As for the tappets, its more noticeable in the tiv than any of my previous cars but its been the same since day one and everyone I speak to assures me that "they all sound like that". Can't offer any more help than that as I don't really understand all those mechanical doo-hickeys

Thank you very much for that Jon, my mind is a little more put at rest, I will ring County TVR tomorrow and ask to get the Tam seen to ASAP, also advising them of the software update needed.
I have read the owners 'manual', but am still not sure how to turn the contrast down, as I can hardly see the menu options on the display, is there a way around this?

Chris

I know the Tam should have a service every 12 months (at least), that's why I'm a little shocked I missed the date on the service record, I feel such a dillon!

They'll be able to reset the factory defaults when it goes for service (in fact this may happen anyway when they change the controller) but I don't know of any way that you can adjust it yourself except through the menus. If you want to try and adjust it "blind" let me know and I'll mail you the button combo's - probably about as much chance of getting it right as winning the lotto but it'll pass the time
