Working in Germany - Taxes

Some advice needed. I could shortly be posting from Germany and basically I need to gen up quick on what Im going to be hit with, tax wise.
Who do I pay to? How much am I likely to be paying? Given Germany is Federal like the States, will I end up paying State and Fed income taxes? What is the lovely HMG Inland Revenue going to do to me?

How long will you be in Germany?
Will you be away for a complete UK tax year?
Will you have any UK based income (interest on savings, dividend income, rental income)?
Do you own a UK property and, if so, will you be retaining ownership whilst working abroad?
Will you be paid as a German employee i.e. your salary and tax thereon administered as if you were a German employee?
Are you making any provisions to maintain UK NI Contributions whilst working abroad?
Will you be away for a complete UK tax year?
Will you have any UK based income (interest on savings, dividend income, rental income)?
