Bosch microwaves
Discussion
When we had our kitchen refurbished I read everything that was written about ovens and stuff and ended up with a good quality Bosch combinatin oven and microwave, the MW having a browning facility which we haven't used in 7 years. It came with a five year, no charge, next day guarantee, seemingly very reasonable. But as it didn't go wrong it proved an expensive option.
The MW shut down a week ago. We saw some neighbours Sat and asked them for any local repairers they could recommend. Both repair cookers, neither repair Bosch MWs. No problem. I went online today and found lots of MW repairers locally.
None will touch Bosch microwaves.
So we phoned Bosch. Their call out fee (which didn't include parts) was higher than any of the others advertised and most of those included parts. The earliest they could come was two days before Christmas.
So I'm off to buy a MW to last us the couple of weeks it will take Bosch to come out.
It is, in all probability, just a fuse but it is not in the plug and they won't tell us where to find and access the internal one.
The MW is a part of the oven - same side panals - so will take some removing if we'd wanted to replace it with a different plumbed in one.
If you are thinking of buying a Bosch MW, PM me.

When you buy a Siemens/Bosch it's like buying a Mercedes. You're not supposed to go fiddling about with it cheaply yourself with parts bought from Halfords, you're supposed to go back to the dealer and pay shedloads. And you need the special FN number or they won't talk to you.
However, when a mouse ate the drain hose on my Siemens washing machine, Siemens wanted £75 for half an hour's call-out plus parts - it's a special kind of hose of course... so I went to B&Q, bought a standard WM hose for a few £ and jammed it on.

Our Bosch MW went recenly (again), this time it's out of warranty.
I had one independent guy take a look at it and he couldn't fix it, (he did however correctly diagnose it in the end) . I had to call Bosch and they offered me an extended 1 year warranty at around £18/mth. Basically, take it out over the phone, direct debit only, they won't take a lump sum payment then the repair man comes in a couple of days and fixes it and you get another 1 year warranty (with some independent company).
I can't remember what the fault was, but it was power supply related, I asked him what the call out would have cost and he said roughly £200 all in, so about the same as the warranty (funny that), but at least I have some warranty left on it. Wont be buying a Bosch MW again.

£216? That's utter madness. If it was my microwave and out of warranty I'd take the panels off and see what I could do first - nothing to lose. But there must be some independent electronics geezer who can fix them, they're only microwave ovens!
I fix them!
Swing out door or drop down door?
Assume it is a built in one? Going to be difficult and expensive to replace so repair or turn it into a cupboard are the only options.
IMO £75 is not expensive for someone who knows what they are doing to come to your house and sort it out.
And why complain about being asked for the Enr number? Without it its a bit like ringing up your local car dealer and telling them you are brining in a car for service, they might like to know which one.
let us know the Enr number and I might be able to advise, if a monitor fuse has gone then there is normally good reason for it to go and just repalcing it will not help matters.

I will never buy Bosch/Siemens or Neff again. Had trouble with every appliance from this group. Funny that the Neff appliances i ripped out of the kitchen 5 years ago had all done 20 years good service. Replaced each appliance for the above makes, and all of them have malfunctioned or broke down within the 5 years of being installed. Now started replacing for cheaper John Lewis items with longer warranties.
Moral of story - they don't make em like they used to!

We had a fairly top-of-the-range stainless steel Panasonic microwave fail at 16mths old and Panasonic basically said hard luck. They also don't have any facility of their own to repair them - I was referred to my local repairer who had closed down some time ago, the next one being an hour away.
Annoying thing is we'd only changed it as the previous one was pretend stainless steel and was looking a bit tatty. Got it back out the garage and it's still working.
Googling it seems it's common for the latest microwave's to fail at an early age.

That's very true. My parents bought a Bejam (National Panasonic) microwave in about 1980 and it still works perfectly! NEFF was a premium brand until they went for contracts and started making them cheaply. You can only trade on a name for so long - but by the time that happens the people responsible have moved onto new jobs.
Bosch may not be alone in this servicing thing..
My folks had a Zanussi washing machine which went wrong, local place come out and look.. "Its probably the controller, but we can't help, they wont sell us the bits". You had to go to Zanussi direct, charge was something like £200 + parts.
They binned the machine and bought a Bosch. Plumbed in, set to a program as per the instructions, it does everything apart from spin the drum, despite it turning easily by hand. Back it went, the replacement is so far still working...

talking nonsence there on both counts, Zannusi parts are widly avaialble (your local bloke was probably a cowboy who just didnt know what the problem was) and Zanussi (Electrolux) do not charge anywhere near the amount you have stated.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
