This guy is going to give £1mill to charity throughout his working life.

Personally I don't see how his sums add up he lives off under £400 a month under £500 for rent over £800 to Charity. I couldn't do it personally less than £100 to pay for food, clothes, petrol, going out. I will donate £10 to him so he can get a decent haircut!

Pretty sure ive seen him on TV pimping some other crap.

Im sure his 'income' is through Oxford uni (ie the taxpayer) and its all some social experiment.

Ie a waste of other peoples money to satisfy his ego. Dont let the haircut fool you, its all about convincing people his mind is on higher things whilst he is just as pretentious as you or I.

This fella was interviewed on telly the other day, he has some supporters that also give away their money to Charity. He came across as extremely sincere and urges others to follow his road. Bit to extreme for me but good luck to the guy if it makes him happy.

He should spend the cash on a few pies and some hair.

On a serious note, admirable but its like pissing on a tree in a forest fire.

He should give his time rather than his money if he really wants to make a difference but good for him.

Not really no

Way less pointless then spending it on cheap lager and puking it everywhere then having a fight

Haven't they got enough rifles yet? Those Kalashnikovs are supposed to be very durable.

he doesn't look like he's ever done that!!

he could fund many experiments and possibly change the course of history with a potential discovery he may or may partially make.

but no... throw money away into the infinite black hole that is charity

It's very commendable, hard to criticise really. I certainly couldn't do it simply because it would always be gnawing at the back of my mind that I'd work my entire life on a minimalist existence when a "big business" or Premier League footballer could have the same impact with a few hours or a couple of weeks worth of money.

Not that hard, just say it's tokenist posturing and you've done it wink

So are they going to rent a home for the rest of their lives ? When they get old will they expect the tax payer to fund their home ? What about a pension ? Sounds a bit naive to me.

I'd say it is very simple to criticise. The man is a skinflint! I already give away over half of my salary. The only thing I can't do is make sure the taxman spends it on worthy causes.

In all seriousness, given the vast amounts we pay in taxes compared to any other point in human evolution, there really shouldn't be any need for charity on top. This bloke would be doing society a greater service if he used his spare cash and position to shame governments into spending our money efficiently.

Giving £1million to charity? Good on him, well I suppose it's cheaper than having children which it looks like he won't have anyway.

I think the wife is a Doctor so whereas hes living on £18k and gives away the rest of his money her money isn't taken into account so in real terms we can call his £18k more like £50k+ so they shouldn't be too hard done by. Ofcourse if she ever divorces his poverty ass he will be on the breadline and the state will take care of him when hes old.

Some of those figures look a little suspect. It mentions £500 for tax and savings, yet my fag packet calcs give £485 of tax for his income, so not much in the way of saving then.

No mention of a pension, is this non-contributory?

Also doesn't mention if the rent is all inclusive. Not having to pay an extra £150 a month in rates is going to make a big difference.

Living in Oxford he has no need for a car which is another big expense that most people have to pay, avoided.

And no real mention of the fact that the wife also works, so the total household income is over £50K which is well above average for the UK.

i've often felt that maybe folk should do things for a charity instead of throwing cash at them.
