Micra. When keyless fobs go bad

Gentlemen and Genteladies,
my 54 plate Micra has been pretty reliable these past 3-4 years. Which pleases me much.
One of the cars has the key-less go option. It is the SE model with electric sunroof and fancy computer/ trip function.
However, the keyless start function no longer functions. The key can be used and the car will operate normally, but only if the key is physically inserted into the dash - it is no longer key-less.
Any advice? Is this common? Any quick and cheap fixes?

Does the red LED light up on the fob when you press a button? No then probly needs a new battery in it. Take the end cap off the fob exposing the fold out blade, find the little slot and gently lever the case apart with a screwdriver. IIRC I think the battery is a CR2032, make sure you put it in the correct way up.
If the LED lights up but the car won`t respond then the fob needs recoding to the car, take both fobs and the car to a dealer. Probly cost around £40. If this doesn`t work you need a new fob but that`s unlikely as they are pretty robust units.

The key fob works. It locks and unlocks the car - from that I deduce that it still works.
I should also add - both keyfobs have lost the ability to perform their keyless function.
Hi mate was with nissan when these cars came out, bit of a learning curve from the old k11. Anyway are all your key fob functions working apart from not being able to start the car, does it still lock and unlock with the keyfob in your pocket by pressing the small button on the door handles, if this is so then the battery has got nothing to do with it. One tip we would give customers who were having problems was only take one key fob into the car at a time, sometimes the secu ( smart entry control unit) can get a bit confused with multiple fobs,if you have two fobs then try each one at a time to see if its any better. Failing that its going to have to be put on consult 2 to monitor the values that the secu and bcm are seeing, if the fob is being seen so to speak then there is an underlying issue. At my time in nissan we did have alot of issues with the early model k12 micras, pretty sure there was several reflashes for the corresponding ecus. Feel free to pm me if you have any further issues mate as i still like to keep my hand in with nissans, plus how you get on with the consult 2 check
