Hi all,

I bought my mother a lovely 1999 3.2 XJ8 today and upon my drive home i have noticed a few small probs. The car heaters/blowers do not work, they will only blow cold not hot air, not really ideal in this weather!

Does anyone have any ideas? The car does not overheat and i cannot see any leaks anywhere.

Also the central locking is not working the key fob will release the boot but will not lock or unlock the car.

Many thanks

Heater: check fuses first. Then possibly the heater pump. It has an aux pump to circ coolant to heater. Another thread on here or jagforum someone got a used pump from a breaker.

Central locking: worth opening thr foib and cleaning the circuit board and backs of thw rubber buttons with elec contact cleaner. Build up of gunge stops the two most popular buttons stop woeking first.

Good luck and enjoy.

If it is the fuse to the auxiliary pump for the heater that has gone, and it keeps blowing it may be down to the alarm siren causing a short.

You can just un-plug the cables from the siren and job done wink the car horn still works if the alarm is triggered. The siren is located in behind the bumper on the N/S you can get to it (just) from the engine bay.

yes What 6Speed said. If you loose the security code whilst the fob's in bits PM me and I'll post how to reprogramme it. Worth sticking a couple of new batteries in too whilst it's all in bits.
