Skiing nr Chamberry

Planning to fly into chamberry. Have previously spent a night in Grenoble then gone to Les Deux Alpes. It's been a while, will I still be able to find a room in a cheap guesthouse or hotel on the day? Internet not too good for finding quaint cheap places. Any other suggestions for good resorts not too far from chamberry? Cheap ish, French,, and good skiing? Wanted maybe to do tignes or val but a bit too far / difficult to get to.
