freelander 2, adjusting the ride height? and purchase help?

bit of a daft question, in the next few weeks we should be getting the older shape freelander2, now theres a knob/dial in front of the gearstick with differnt settings (as i'm sure your aware) now does this change the height the car sits at? reason i ask is on some classifieds i see the car with either a big gap or a small gap between arch and tyre.

also what does the hse model have the next one down dosent as theres a fair price differnce. all i can see is full leather and climate, but not to sure

and finally what should we look at for/ listen out for when test driving and viewing?
