I am replacing the fuel pump on my Griff and after some advice have decided to go for the bosch 044. Apparently this is an uprated pump compared to the standard one origionally fitted.
Will I need to upgrade the wireing going to the pump or will the stock wireing be Ok.
Anyone who has done this I would appreciate a little feedback on how it performed and how noisey the pump is as I read that they can be extremely noisey.

The main reason for changing the pump for me is to try and eliminate lean running on WOT.

Any help would be great
Chris

I didn't upgrade the wiring to my pump, but I did replace the relays while doing other work. It was no noisier than the old pump. You will need to make a new bracket because it is bigger than the old pump.

I had to upgrade the wiring on mine, the standard wiring made the pump deliver LESS than standard.
It requires more current to run it...
I put a relay in, triggered by the standard fuel pump wiring, and ran a more manly wire to the pump from the fuse box.
There are some thick battery cables in the fuse board on my Cerbera, which is in the boot.
We prooved this when we put a pressure gauge on, it picked up 5psi when we ran a wire direct from the battery to the pump.

Any chance of a basic wiring diagram??

I can follow that much easier, sorry to jump in I have just bought a bigger pump so will need to do the same. Never quite understood this relay malarky smile

You can do a simple voltage check across the pump when its running, just check you are getting near 12 volts with the car at idle when the pumps load is highest (most of the fuel is going through the regulator, and back into the tank, not into the injectors so the pump has double the work). If it say drops to 10 volts then the wiring / relays are not up to the job. I thought you had done a fuel line pressure test at WOT on this one, or am I getting confused???

I did and yes it seemed OK but was a little down compared to Johns but only a couple of psi. I have the pump now just need a connector and some sort of mounting bracket making up.
While it was on the Rolling road at the growl we did try upping the Fuel pressure via the adjustable regulator and although it made a difference at low RPM at higher RPM it made no difference so thought maybe it was working at its max and that couple of psi might just be the problem.

A couple of PSI is all it takes!

That being the case then... I need a variable resistor in mine to get the pressure down a bit... Chris... may be we should have just swaped!! tongue out
