I have just bought a "series 1.5". The interior is a bit scruffy and the engine bay looks like it needs a good steam clean. Other than that the underside dosn't look too bad but I will know more once I've had a good look.
Can anyone tell me if the dials are giving the correct readings.
1. Voltmeter reads about 13volt with all lights on
2. Oil pressure reads steady on 50 when running and just below on tickover
3. Temperature is around the 90 mark, creeps up and down. Never got into the red though.

Ran the car back from Manchester to Leicestershire down the M6 this afternoon and it ran beautifully.
I don't know why they put a radio in as above 60 there was no way you could hear.
The chap I bought it from said it had a sports exhaust, dose this make it louder???
Not much history with the car but I have almost all the MOT's and loads of garage bills from one previous owner. Not much been done in the last two years though.
There is loads to do but the first thing is to get a good look underneath to assess what needs done there.
I have seen mention on the forum pages about "The Bible". How much and where from??
Enough for just now. N doubt there will be many trials and tribulations in the future but just now there is a big TVR grin on my face.

Order the bible from www.tvrcc.com. Details on www.tvrbooks.co.uk

Have fun and I wouldn't steam clean the engine bay. The electrics don't like it and it often induces all sorts of electrical gremlins.

As Steve says, get on the TVRCC website, on the Regalia section and order the bible. While you are on there join the TVRCC its worth it for the monthly magazine alone, then go to the TVRCC East Midlands website and register with our Regional Organiser, John Case. Have a look at the Gallery section or the owners section, there are a number of us S owners on there. Try and get to some of the monthly meetings everyone is very friendly and helpful.
Enjoy the experience

Thanks to all who replied. Would like to meet up for a beer sometime soon. Will order the bible tomorrow. in the mean time there is a terrible petrol smell around the back of the car. It might be the reason there was a new petrol tank in with the price of the car. the car is not leaking petrol, not that I can see. The chap who sold it to me said not to put more than £20 worth in at at time as "there is a sometimes a petrol smell". Theres only about a tenners worth in now and it still smells. (Do you think that might be why I have found 2 fire extinguishers so far).
If anyone knows where the petrol might be leaking from I would appreciate any info on where to start looking for the leak. If I can fix the leak then there will be a petrol tank going cheap. If not how do you replace the tank.
Next question
One of the wheel bearings is on the way out. Are they a standard part or are they specials.

"standard part"...we are talking TVR here.

As for the petrol smell it could be from the breather pipe if you have over filled it at some time or the hose that leads to the tank

Have got home tonight and the petrol smell is a lot less. There is less than 1/4 in the tank now. Have felt all around and it seems dry. I don't think it has been over filled as the previous owner had not been putting much in the tank.

According to the parts list www.tvrc-south-wales.co.uk/sparts.asp they are from a Sierra , motorcraft part No 5010762 or from TVR S28C 10004

If possible, fill the tank right up into the neck and park the back end on a large sheet of cardboard. Take a look in the morning to see if there are any drip marks. Make sure you get some under the pump and filter areas too. If there aren't any then chances are it's not leaking from the tank. Start the engine, leave it running for a bit and check around the filter area and pipework (probably easier with the nearside rear wheel removed).

having wrestled with the fuel gauge sender unit on my S3 for the last 2 years and having found the options are

a) working gauge, weeping sender unit or
b) dead gauge, tight sender unit

decided to hit it with a hammer and it now works perfectly and is as tight as a ducks rear end!

petrol smell at £20 ish worth of fuel would take it up to the sender unit level...may be worth whipping that out and changing (adding) to the seal!

Just an idea (for while you've got the wheel off!

Had the car up on the ramps tonight and found the bonnet hinge bolts loose.tightened these up and the bonnet now opens without having to drive on to a piece of wood. Also found two holes in the floor. They look like they were properlt drilled. One is to the right of the drivers seat and is about 10mm in diameter. The other is in the middle of the footwell and is about 25mm across. Any ideas anyone.
Can someone tell me how to adjust the hinges on the doors as both have dropped about half an inch.
Thanks
