Not Again! Please Help! (E46 Problems)

Following my posts from a couple of weeks ago, I've hit problems again. Key information is it is 2002 E46 318ci, 65,000 miles on it. No serious problems until recently.


To fill people in on last times occurances:

Skipped timing chain which led to the car driving badly. Still drove, just. Got that put right and it drove fine for about a week.


Now:

Just started it up tonight. Revs all over the place (though not climbing above 2,000 RPM), 'fuel consumption' needle all over the place, distinct smell coming from the car. Definite burning. Seems like clutch but not 100% sure.

Any suggestions? I'm sick of the car now. Used to have so much faith in it. Looks like it may have to go.

Maf? Unburnt fuel being the smell? A split pipe causing eratic idling? Clutch would not burn on start up, perhaps the rocker gasket has gone? So many things to be honest.
