I may be staying for a couple of days between xmas and new year in the new Coworth hotel which belongs to Dorchester hotels:

Not sure what to expect but I picked it up over some lovely places in the Cotswolds... so it better be good...

Big question is: I'd rather go and discover the local restaurants. Can anyone recommande some really nice place around the Ascot area? More into gastro pub food / good italian or french as opposed to overly refined dining.
Can anyone recommand a little gem or two in the area please?

Marlow - Hand and Flowers is a favourite of mine. 1 Star and the Chef has been on the Great British Menu. Pub style rather than fine dining and if you can get in for lunch they do an excellent £10 a head for 2 course deal.
Ascot Oriental is very good for a chinese.
Then you have Bray(Maidenhead) The Hindshead is Hestons pub and very good too.
In Paley Street is The Royal Oak a pub owned by Parkinson another one with a star, the food is fab but I felt it was expensive.

That should get you started.

The Thatched Tavern is pretty close to there, I've not been for a while, but it's normally pretty good. Have a look at the restuatants Wiki for more...

I booked the Hand and Flowers (thanks Bullet) and one that I found searching myself called The Bluebells near Ascot. Hopefully we should survive with these two... Thanks for all the help. Will try the others when I spend more time in the area.

Thinking about going here for a meal for Dad's birthday.
